Trends: Messy Ballerina Bun

Lately everybody has been rocking that high-fashion super-model top-of-the-head bun. It is a chic, understated & elegant look that is effortless yet put-together simultaneously. The best part about this trendy look? It takes about 2 minutes, and is my favorite way to wear my hair on a bad hair day, or on a day where my hair isn't freshly washed (like on the way to the supermarket to pick up soup & advil after a night of partying).

This style will look differently depending on your hair type. I have thin, medium length hair. So my hair looks somewhat slicked back and my bun is pretty tiny. But if you have thicker hair, you will have a more voluminous look. If you have longer hair, your bun will be bigger. You can also tug hair around the secured band to loosen up your hair and use bobby pins to push up your hair, making a bump or just bigger hairline in general.

Here is how I make my messy ballerina bun, in less than 2 minutes:

Also, I will be announcing the winner of the Xmas give away shortly, the Christmas weekend kept me busy, so I apologize to anyone who is on the edge of their seats waiting to hear about the contest :)

The Stylist: Designer DIY

Left to Right: Lanvin, Lanvin for H&M, Stuart Weitzman, Dolce&Gabbana, Valentino

So I'm always amazed when I see great DIY fashion projects. Though I haven't actually tackled anything amazing yet...I plan to! And I've been keeping a log of gorgeous designer shoes that anyone with a hot glue gun and a little creative talent could create. These shoes are all designer, but I bet that they would be quite easy to imitate, with a pair of plain heels from Target or Charlotte Rouse & a short trip to Michael's art store! What do you think? Would you or have you made "designer DIY" shoes?

From the Author: Crazy Week & Cropped Tops

Hello it has been an insane week for me & I haven't had much time to post! With Christmas shopping, work deadlines & attempting to have a social life, I'm sure I'm not the only busy one towards the end of this year!

I've been seeing this new trend of cropped looser tops everywhere lately, but didn't really think I could pull it off with my body type. So I decided to take the plunge! The top is from Nordstrom, and it is a leopard print cropped, looser top. For body types like mine, I think it looks fabulous with a looser black tank underneath & black leggings, and of course, a long interesting necklace. If you have a slimmer body type, try pairing it with high waisted pants!

Thank you to everyone for their continued support & love. Tell me how you would wear the cropped trend below!

These are perfect for holiday and NYE outfits, because they are sexy & simple, and you can pair them with your crazy sequined dress or little red number without looking like you are doing too much!

From the Author: "Fat Bitch"

This post is very personal for me, and I hesitated publishing it. However I decided I am probably not the only one with an experience like this, and perhaps I will be able to empower other ladies by telling my story.

I'm an extremely social person. I love going out with friends on the weekends, meeting new people, having conversations with strangers and getting to know each person that walks into my life. This past weekend, like most, I was out having a good time with friends in Downtown Seattle. On the way home we all decided to stop by a local pizza place that stayed open late after bars closed down...and I offered to grab pizza slices for a couple of my good friends. However there was one guy in the car who I barely knew, and I told him if he wanted pizza to come out with me and get himself a slice (since I didn't want to pay for his slice). I was not rude...but he demanded that I buy him a slice of pizza - barely knowing me at all.

So I told him not to be rude and come out with him to get himself one. He refused and sat in the car while I got out. While waiting in line, I decided to be kind and get him a slice anyway, even though he had been very rude. As I walked back to the car, he thought I didn't get him any pizza, and yelled out the window at me, "You FAT BITCH."

I was appalled. What did he just say to me? I was feeling very confident in my outfit, having a wonderful night, and a friend of a friend is calling me the two things I feared being called. I got in the car and asked him why he was acting like that...why would he say such a thing. And he responded by saying, "Because you are a fat bitch, that's why."

I went off on him. I sunk down to his level and told him exactly what I thought about him and what he said. He shut his mouth real quick. But in hindsight I regret stooping to his level - hurling insults right back at him. I was in tears by the end of the night and felt violated. How could someone be so cruel? And the ironic thing was, of course, I actually bought him a slice. He wasn't getting now, obviously.

After talking with a good friend, I realized that his insult truly had nothing to do with me as a person, inside or out. It was really about his own insecurities. And regardless of your size as a woman, one of the most hurtful insults is to be called a "Fat Bitch." We all have body issues, thanks to the pressure that the media and society puts on us to look a certain way. A way which doesn't actually exist, except in the pages of airbrushed and photoshopped magazine pages.

I had to realize that if I let this near stranger hurt me, if I let him touch my heart and my mind, I was giving him power. Someone who degrades women, who throws out the most hurtful of insults to a woman just because he doesn't get what he wants - like a child.

Another ironic note? He has actually tried to pick me up before...hit on me...creep...whatever you want to call it.

So, TRENT, I'm calling you out. For all the beautiful women out there who are trying to live up to unrealistic standards and fear being judged through the eyes of egotistical, insecure men: I am a FAT BITCH. And I love it. I love my beautiful body, my curves, my breasts, my hips, my lips, my eyes and myself.

And I have you to thank for empowering myself - and being comfortable with owning the title of Fat Bitch.

Trends: Chevron Beaded Necklace

This necklace is popping everywhere right now, being paired with loose fitting tanks and skinny jeans. Since this piece has been available for a while now, copy cat versions are trickling down to stores like Nordstrom and Macy's; in fact I found a gorgeous white & silver chevron beaded necklace on Black Friday at Nordstrom Rack for under $20 (originally $85 & on clearance).

If I Was a Rich Girl: Valentino Studded T-Strap

This season, if you have been keeping an eye on high fashion trends in Paris, Milan & Barcelona, you already know this season's "it" shoe: The Valentino Studded T-Strap. The shoe comes in a high heel, a kitten heel & a flat - and will run you about $800. I could always opt out of paying bills this month, and instead, buy this gorgeous shoe...

I searched the internet for copy-cat versions of this fierce shoe, but couldn't find anything worthy of posting. If anyone can find a knockoff of this shoe, please post it in the comments or email me :)

From the Author: Favorite Photoshopped Pics

Photoshopping is lots of we all know. Adding effects to give a photo an emotion, like anger, melancholy or happiness, can be an entertaining challenge. What do I like to add? Drama. These are some of my favorite photos of myself that I have photoshopped around with. What is your favorite effect to use in making pictures more dramatic?
